We have previously blogged about the phenomena of cybersquatting on the personal names of famous people, including politicians. Political Candidate Cybersquatting: Hillary Clinton's Name Most Squatted
Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin is relatively new to the scene. We thought we’d take a look and see how long it took before her fame was reflected in the number of cybersquatters trying to cash in on her new political status. Here is a domain typo report provided by Domain Tools.
The first domain Sarahpalin.com appears to be controlled by the McCain Camp. The next two domains, Sarah-palin.com and Sarahpallin.com, are controlled by a registrant by the name of “BE Ads”. These domains appear to be controlled by people unaffiliated with Sarah Palin. The next group of domains, Sarahpalin.org, .biz, .net, and .info, all appear to be blatant cybersquatting sites on parked pages with keyword advertising. You can check out the rest of the domains listed below, many of which are clearly cybersquatting on the names of someone who is quickly becoming a famous politician.
Sarahlalin.com, Sarahpalin.org, Sarahpalin.biz, Sarahpalin.net, Sarahpalin.info, Sarapalin.org, Sarahpalim.com, Wwwsarahpalin.com, Sarah-palin.biz, Sarah-palin.net, Sarapalin.us, Sarahpalin.us, Sarapalin.biz, Sarahlpalin.us, Sarapalin.com, Sarahaplin.com, Sarah-palin.us, Sarah-palin.org, Sarahpalins.com
While Sarah Palin as a politician has not achieved the cybersquatted status of Hillary Clinton, my guess is that there will continue to be an onslaught of cybersquatting activity on the Sarah Palin name. Of course, even the George Bush library appears to be taking the fact that its names are being cybersquatting in stride.
While you’re at it, check out this classic cybersquatting site for McCainPalin.info.
