The payment processing company Click Sales Inc., which operates the poplular service and domain name ClickBank.com, filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Forum (WIPO) in order to obtain the .CO ccTLD. The Clickbank.co domain name is currently registered in China and is listed for sale on Sedo.
As reported on Domain Name Wire, over 50 cases have been filed against registrants and/or cybersquatters who obtained .CO domain names since the launch of .CO ccTLDs. In a letter dated August 9, 2010, Eduardo Santoyo, who is the CEO for the new .CO country code Top Level Domains (ccTLD), assurred registered trademark and brand owners of the security of the newly implemented .CO ccTLDs and warned cybersquatters that all .CO domain names are subject to ICANN's Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP). UDRP arbitration proceedings can be brought (similarly to in rem) directly against the infringing domain names regardless of the global location of the infringing domain name owner, registrar, or host for the domain address. Cybersquatters who attempt to register trademark or brand infringing .co domain names are put on notice that such infringing domain names can fairly easily be repossessed by rightful brand owners. UDRP is not a cybersquatting lawsuit seeking monetary damages, but rather enforcement of online intellectual property related to their domain name.
